I'm writing to voice the collective displeasure of the Serbian community at certain scenes in your film 'In the Land of Blood and Honey' and recent statements you have made calling for the abandonment of Republika Srpska. Firstly, the rape scenes depicting Serbs as the sole aggressors and Bosnian Muslims as lone victims not only misconstrue history but also dangerously demonize Serbs. Secondly, despite being a very talented actress you lack the proper orientation to be making politically inflammatory statements with regards to the integrity of Serbian territory. We acknowledge incidents took place in which criminals whose nationality is Serbian committed rape against victims whose nationality is Bosnian Muslim. It is my personal opinion that life imprisonment for these miscreants is too lenient of a punishment. But if you're insinuating the compensation for these crimes should be the surrender of our territory in Republika Srpska then I ask you, by this logic, are there enough planets in our solar system to territorially compensate Serbs for what we have suffered during our history?

I would like to briefly familiarize you with the portion of Serbian history which seems to have escaped you in your research for this film. During the Middle Ages Serbia served as Christian Europe's lightening rod to absorb the Ottoman empire's push west. It proved very costly as our entire army was wiped out during the battle of Kosovo Polje in 1389. This resulted in 500 years of slavery and brutality under the Ottomans, who favored Serbian converts to Islam who would later become 'Bosnian Muslims.' Shortly after regaining our independence from the Ottomans we were invaded by the Central Powers in WWI and lost half of our male population resisting. Just as our population started to recover, WWII struck which horrific consequences. We lost over a million people fighting the Nazis while Bosnian Muslims formed their own SS divisions. To conclude a rather eventful 20th century the '90s proved to be particularly bloody. 10,000 Serbs were killed and 300,000 were expelled in the war in Croatia, 25,000 were killed in the war in Bosnia and a further 7,000 were killed and 220,000 were expelled as a result of the Kosovo war and subsequent American-led bombing.

The reason your position is so dangerous is because it presents a distorted history to an audience which has no knowledge of the background of this conflict. It would be comparable to making a WWII movie in which the main protagonist is a Nazi and the main antagonist is Jewish and presenting it to viewers who have no prior awareness of what actually took place. The real reason Serbs are demonized in the Western media is not because of some innate characteristic which leads us to murder, rape and pillage but because Serbs have always vigorously resisted foreign domination. In order to justify the bombing, occupation and dismemberment of my country, your media which is an organ of your government, dehumanizes my people at every opportunity. Certain scenes in your movie as well as your statements pertaining to Republika Srpska intentionally or unintentionally only serve to desensitize Americans towards injustices their country continues to commit against Serbs.

I also find it ironic that you had to look so far to find a love story with a backdrop of genocide when your country was built by African slaves, 55 million of whom died on their way there, on the graves of 114 million American Indians. Surely instances of rape perpetrated by slave owners and American soldiers were infinitely more numerous than what took place in the Balkans. If you were interested in something more recent perhaps the rapes and other atrocities committed by American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan could have formed a more truthful story. If your objective was to focus on the topics of 'Bosnia' and 'rape' then American 'peacekeepers' and private contractors whose presence created a market for underage sex slavery where there wasn't one before, would have made more historically accurate characters.

I implore you to rescind your statements regarding Republika Srpska, as they are clearly misinformed and potentially volatile in a part of the world where the smallest sparks lead to full blown conflict. I also ask of you to take advantage of your recent media coverage with regards to this film, and take the courageous step of stopping the trend of anti-Serb bias by telling the world that crimes were committed by all sides during the Bosnian war. Lastly, it might surprise you to know that we are not calling for the boycott of this film. On the contrary we encourage all Serbs to see this movie to more clearly understand the mechanics of propaganda and slander the entertainment industry employs on behalf of the US government. This will teach Serbs to question all American movies dealing with places their government has interfered in and compel them to support anti-defamation groups such as 28. Jun which will continue to be the voice of justice for our people.

Пишем Вам у име колективног незадовољства Српске заједнице у вези са одређеним сценама из Вашег филма ,,У земљи крви и меда'' и недавним изјавама које су се односиле на Републику Српску. Најпре, сцене силовања осликавају Србе као једине агресоре, а Босанске Муслимане као једине жртве. Поменуте сцене погрешно тумаче историју и демонизују Србе.
Упркос томе што сте веома талентована глумица, недостаје Вам одговарајућа оријентација да би сте давали политички запаљиве изјаве које се односе на интегритет територије Републике Српске. Признајемо злочине које су починили криминалци српске националности за силовање Муслиманки.
Моје лично мишљење је да је доживотна робија за ове злочинце превише блага казна. Али, ако су Ваше инсинуације да компензација за ове злочине треба да буде престанак постојања Републике Српске, онда Вас питам: да ли, по тој логици, има довољно планета у нашем соларном систему које би надокнадиле територију Србима за оно што су пропатили током историје?

Волео бих да Вас укратко упознам са делом српске историје који Вам је, чини се, промакао док сте радили на истраживању у вези са овим филмом. Током Средњег века Србија је служила као громобран Хришћанске Европе који је задржао продор Отоманског царства на Запад. То нас је скупо коштало јер је наша цела војска била збрисана у Косовском боју 1389. године. Ово је резултирало као 500-годишње ропство под Турцима. Турци су заговарали преобраћање Срба у Исламизам који су касније постали 'Босански Муслимани'.
Убрзо након поновног успостављања независности од Турака, нападнути смо од стране Централних сила у Првом светском рату и изгубили пола мушке популације која је пружала отпор. Тек што је наш народ почео да се опоравља, Други светски рат ударио је остављајући страшне последице иза себе. Изгубили смо више од милион људи у борби против Нациста док су Босански Муслимани формирали своје СС дивизије. Како би закључиле крајње буран 20.век, '90-те су се показале као посебно крвав период. 10.000 Срба је убијено и 300.000 протерано у рату у Хрватској, 25.000 је убијено у рату у Босни, а 7.000 Срба убијено je и 220.000 протерано у рату на Косову и у америчко-диригованом бомбардовању које је уследило.

Ваша улога у прављењу овог филма је опасна јер сте презентовали искривљену историју публици која није упућена у позадину конфликта. То би било упоредиво са прављењем филма о Другом светском рату у ком је главни протагониста Нациста, а антагониста Јеврејин и представити то гледаоцима који немају свест о томе шта се догодило. Прави разлог зашто су Срби демонизовани у западним медијима није због неке урођене карактеристике која води убијању, силовању и пљачкању већ то што су се Срби увек снажно супротстављали страној доминацији.
У циљу да се оправда бомбардовање, окупација и комадање моје земље, ваши медији, који су орган ваше владе, дехуманизовали су мој народ у свакој прилици. Одређене сцене у Вашем филму као и Ваше изјаве које се односе на Републику Српску намерно или ненамерно служе ослобађању од емпатије Американаца у односу на неправду коју ваша држава чини против Срба.

Иронично је то што сте морали да одете тако далеко у потрази за љубавном причом која за позадину има и причу о геноциду када је Ваша земља створена на плећима Афричких робова од којих је 55 милиона умрло на свом путу и на гробовима 114 милиона Индијанаца. Сигурно је да је број силовања почињених од стране робовласника и америчких војника већи од броја овог злочина на Балкану. Ако сте били заинтересовани за скорије догађаје, можда би силовања и друга зверства почињена од стране америчких трупа у Ираку и Авганистану помогла да створите истинитију причу. Ако сте били фокусирани на теме као што су 'Босна' и 'силовање' онда би амерички мировњаци и приватни предузетници чије је присуство креирало тржиште за малолетно секс-робље, којег није било пре, направило историјски тачнije карактере.

Преклињем Вас да повучете своје изјаве у вези са Републиком Српском јер су оне, као такве, дезинформације и неадекватне за место у ком и најмање варнице воде до прегршт сукоба. Такође Вас молим да искористите своје појављивање у медијима у вези са овим филмом и да храбро почнете са заустављањем тренда анти-српства и кажете да су злочини почињени од свих страна у рату у Босни. Напослетку, можда ће Вас изненадити то да ми не позивамо на бојкот Вашег филма. Напротив, подстичемо Србе да погледају филм како би боље разумели механизам пропаганде и клевете индустрије забаве запослене од стране америчке владе. Ово ће научити Србе да преиспитају све америчке филмове чија се радња одвија на местима у која се америчка влада умешала и приволети их да дају подршку анти-пропагандним групама попут 28. јуна која ће наставити да буде глас правде за наш народ.

Helicopter to Goran Bregovic Concert

i dont usually make random ass posts like this but this is important for 2 reasons: firstly it was the first time i flew in over 10 years (cuz of my aerophobia) and secondly i got to see my idol Goran Bregovic live (from the front row - shout out to Igor!)...i missed the last ferry to vancouver and i had a bunch of vip tickets which i didnt want to go to waste so i took the helicopter...as soon as i posted that i had a bunch of people hit me up thinking i got over my fear of flying NOPE i got over my FEAR OF DEATH...it was the most nerve-wrecking 35 minutes of my life!!! i had 'Mars na Drinu' on repeat the whole time with a careful eye on the emergency exit and life jacket!!! upon landing i kissed the ground, shook the hands of the pilots and thanked GOD!...anyway, add helicopters to the list of means of transportation i won't ever go on again...as for the show it was amazing, i heard 2 songs from him i never heard before ('In the Death Car' and 'Queen Margaret')...i secretly recorded them and will sample them for the new CD ;)...i'm also in touch with his management about a future collabo

Boj za Kosovo

My name is Filip Filipi and I am a musician and political science student from Victoria, Canada. I am also co-founder of 28.Jun, a Serbian organization engaged in political, social and philanthropic functions pertaining to Serbian interests. I was born in Belgrade but I lived in Krajina together with my family until the war forced us to immigrate to Canada when I was 7 years old. My maternal grandmother is from a village called Rtica by the town of Podujevo in northern Kosovo. The town became infamous during the 2004 March Pogroms as the scene of the widely circulated video in which Albanian extremists desecrate the Saint Elijah Church. My paternal grandmother is from a village called Kistanje in northern Dalmatia which was completely burnt down and destroyed during Operation Storm in 1995. Ironically, it was later re-settled by Croats from Kosovo to ensure Serbs wouldn't regain demographic superiority. The ethnic cleansing committed against Serbs has had a direct impact on my family and this is why I feel a particular connection to Serbs fighting for survival in Kosovo.

After the shooting of unarmed Serbian civilians by K-FOR troops in Kosovo on 27 September 2011, I decided to channel my efforts into doing whatever I could to ease the suffering of the remaining Serbs there. I am preparing to release a track named 'Kosovka' to initiate my fanbase into a charitable and worthy cause. After weeks of research, I was alerted to the efforts of a young medical student named Slavko Tokanovic as well as the Serbian Orthodox Youth Association (SOYA) in Australia. Slavko spent a month in Kosovo last summer working closely with the Health Center Gracanica located in the isolated Serbian enclave in central Kosovo. During his time there, Slavko found that the Serbs had been left without a viable health network after being forcibly displaced from throughout Kosovo and Metohia after 1999. Ethnic segregation meant that Serbs were unable to access health care due to everyday discrimination and dangers they experienced from the side of the Albanians. Serbs of Kosovo and Metohia have since been building clinics and hospitals with what little they have and initial help from the side of humanitarian actions and the Serbian government. Slavko assessed which medical equipment and supplies were most critically needed and together with SOYA, raised the funds to purchase and deliver them to the Health Center Gracanica. Despite these efforts much more help is needed to get supplies and equipment to the Serbs living in these isolated areas in central and southern Kosovo. I am thus endeavoring to help raise money to aid our Serbian brothers and sisters, and I was truly honored when Slavko, SOYA and the Health Center Gracanica got on board on this project.

As a student of political science and someone with a keen personal interest in international relations, I saw with abundant clarity the double-standards under which the West tends to operate. It was of no surprise to me, therefore, that Albanians were favored even when it came to such basic human needs as healthcare. With insufficient aid, constant hostility and harassment by Albanians and the belligerence and bias of K-FOR, Serbs in Kosovo feel isolated and somewhat abandoned. Here’s an opportunity for Serbs worldwide, as well as global citizens who are pro-justice, to show support for our brothers and sisters in Kosovo and Metohia, who are in dire need. The time has come for us to reject this rampant defeatism and to help the too-often overlooked Serbian people in Kosovo. The least we could do is aid and enable our doctors heal our people.

The situation in Kosovo and Metohia may look bleak but it is far from over. As long as there are Serbs living in Serbia’s southern province, it is the duty of every global citizen to do everything in their power to ensure Serbs continue to live on their land without feeling oppressed and dehumanized. It is important to remember that Serbia was occupied for 500 years by the Ottoman empire and yet, she emerged stronger than ever with her culture, religion and territory intact. What is 12 years compared to 5 centuries? The entire history of Serbia is littered by periods of occupation by larger empires and their vassals, yet her very existence is testament to who emerged victorious. What makes NATO insusceptible to this fate?

We have patience, we have inat and most importantly we have justice on our side. We will regain the heartland of our country but ONLY if we are united.

'Kosovka' Cover + Lyrics

I just wanted to update everyone on a new track I've been preparing for the last few months called 'Kosovka.' The song is produced by three-time Grammy award winner, four-time ASCAP rhythm and soul award winner and ASCAP pop award winner Darius "Deezle" Harrison and my long time collaborator Jonathan Lee. It's definitely the best beat I ever rapped on with the Serbian folk sample meshing perfectly with Deezle's drums and Lee's synths coming together to create a BANGER. I'm on the first two verses with J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League/Asylum Records recording artist Laws on the third. The song was delayed because I plan to donate all the funds it generates to a charity I have set up through 28.Jun which will go towards purchasing and delivering medical supplies to Serbs in Kosovo. It will be available on iTunes and Bandcamp and we are also setting up a donations account which has caused the delay. The definite release will happen on Monday at 12:01 AM. Everyone tried very hard to make this song happen (we mixed for a week and I went to the studio just to say a "swag" ad-lib) from the production, to the recording process to the art work. Speaking of which, the single cover is an absolute masterpiece and I will let Marko "Da Vinci" Sejat describe the creative process which took place into putting it together:

Filip and I have done a lot of projects together since we first started in 2005 but this “Kosovka” cover was probably the hardest one to execute to date. Because of the meaning and significance that this painting has to Serbs, we knew that it would definitely be on everyone’s radar when we decided to use it for Filip’s new song “Kosovka”. However, this wouldn’t be the first time someone has made a song about Kosovo or used the painting as an album cover so we needed to do something that would make this one different from all the rest; and that’s where the challenge started. Filip came to me with the idea of flipping the painting which was originally done in 1919 by Uros Predic depicting the battle of Kosovo in 1389, and making a modern day version using but leaving the maiden of Kosovo and Pavle Orlovic in the picture representing the battle that we are fighting again today. We knew that we had to make sure that this came out accurate and most importantly good looking because it’s really easy to make such an undertaking go downhill fast.

With that said, I started off by making the changes to Pavle Orlovic’s clothing into modern day Serbian military field dress. The hardest part about this was putting the camouflage together piece by piece which is ironic because the pattern was dubbed “Jigsaw” by the military. Texturing every piece, adjusting the lighting and layering was very time consuming (as it was on every other part of this project) but came together in the end. I had added dust and grime to his face as well as all the standard issue equipment issued to the basic Serbian soldier. I then changed out the body of the dead Ottoman Turk that Pavle was laying over to the body of a dead KLA-UCK militant by changing out the appearance of his clothing to that of the typical blacked out jump suits that those terrorists wore in 1999. We also changed out the turban on the ground to a beret and added the patches in the end as a final touch. The other dead bodies on the field were also modified in the same way. We kept the maiden of Kosovo the same as she was in the original photo because we felt that editing her would take away from that feeling of “history repeats itself” and the symbolism we were trying to attain here. The weapons on the field were also altered. Pavle’s sword was now a Zastava m76 unfolder and the arrows on the ground were now a pile of grenades. The horse in the back of the original painting was now a destroyed technical (commonly known as Toyota trucks mounted with machine gun turrets which are usually seen being used by rebel fighters/militia groups) and a NATO armored personnel carrier (APC). The background also features two plumes of smoke and an exploding vehicle capped with the 3 Gazelle helicopters which were also not present in the original painting as well. Just as the background was modified, so was the foreground. The grass had been touched up, barbed wire had been added , and the shield had been now changed to a destroyed piece of armor with the words “FUCK THE NATO” written on it.

The lighting in the entire picture now been altered as well for both technical and symbolic purposes. The original painting was painted lightly with the feel of calm and warmth of the heroic battle which had just taken place. Our version was done in a dark tone representing the dark times we are in now while keeping that same spirit of heroism. It was also much easier to work with darks than lights because the details and texturing had to match the original painting. That in itself was a technical challenge because any sort of available online resources that we had featured the painting were always in very low dimensions at 72 dpi resolution. We needed the final product to be in 18x17 at 300dpi. Anyone who knows about how hard this is to do would know that this is a big challenge. To find a solution to this problem, I had textured the painting and done the artwork in the original low dimensions and resolution given and saved the file to a flash drive. I headed over to staples, had the picture printed on 11x17 glossy cell paper (about 4 bucks a page) and had noticed that the image was very noticeably blurred in very visible areas that the eye focuses to immediately. I had then re-scanned the image and edited the image to have the same texture that the original painting had, canvas. This made a huge difference in the artwork and pretty much what made the piece execute. It had taken two weeks to complete everything and we hope that you appreciate what we have done. We hope that you love the outcome, love the song, and get inspired by this image to go out and make a difference in the Serbian community and never losing hope because after all, that’s what this battle was about and what this painting represented. A few months ago the headlines in Serbia were all about your collaboration with Ceca. When will that finally happen?

She’s obviously had her legal complications but right now the main issue for me is the beat. The beat we got right now is an amazing rap beat. It’s probably the best rap beat of the year. However, it’s a rap beat and I think if I am already going to have such big stars I should make an international hit, not a rap hit. The current situation is I am in touch with Wyclef`s people and I am either going to have him change the current beat or make an entirely new one. I want him involved, I like the charitable work he did with Haiti and I would like to do something similar for Kosovo with him and Ceca. I’m hoping to drop this track before the New Year. Filip Filipi x Marko Sejat Design - Concept Serbia Basketball Uniforms

The current Serbian basketball jerseys are lame. Our team deserves better. The manufacturer Peak needs to step their game up and have some respect for our legendary basketball program. These 3 beliefs brought me and long time collaborator Marko Sejat together to redesign, re-invent and swag out Serbia's uniforms.

We reverted to the '90s skinny sleeve and circular neck cut. The wide sleeve hinders a players shot and gives them a reason to skip work outs because it masks how skinny some of these players actually are. The new design will improve shooting percentage and get some of these dudes to bulk up. We went away from the v-neck cut because a basketball court isn't a night club. For the home and away jerseys (the alternate is in latin) we decided to use the Cyrillic alphabet because its uniquely Serbian and true to our identity and culture. 'Србија' is positioned above the numbers on the chest to show the importance of the team before the individual.

HOME
The uniforms are white with 'Србија' written in blue with a secondary thin blue outline. The side panel is adorned with the CCCC (Само слога Србина спасава) national motto laser etched into the fabric like the American national team has.

AWAY
We went with the rich dark blue used on our flag as the main color with a red trim. 'Србија' is written in white with a red trim and black shadow. We also minimized the trim pattern on the side using only a subtle red outline.

AWAY ALTERNATE
Our most experimental design is definitely the away alternate. We used red as the base color with the tiger stripe camo pattern influenced by the milicija uniforms of 1999 completing the revolutionary look. It's been scientifically proven teams with red uniforms win more and we see the military as a fundamental pillar in Serbian culture hence we paid homage with the camouflage.

We insist (in the name of swag) that Peak and the Serbian Basketball Federation consider our designs in time for the Olympics next summer! Good luck to our boys against (those cheating bastards) Turkey Sunday!! Me and Marko got $5 G's on SRBIJA!!!

i'm doing an image overhaul for my upcoming mixtape and album and i've started with my twitter and youtube channel...my mom actually saw my tasteless old twitter background and suggested i change it immediately...i ja naravno uvek slusam mamu!...the inspiration for the new design was the scene in the movie Belly in which tommy's house is adorned with black and white photographs of black women...i later found out this was the Amazone collection by Thierry Le Goues and decided to incorporate it into my design....i added an accent of #dd5566 rumenko pink (which i also use for my tumblr) to complete the new look!

It was originally the feast day for the Slavic god of war "Svetovid" before the Serbian Orthodox Church designated it a memorial day to Saint Prince Lazar and the Serbian holy martyrs who gave their lives in defend their faith during the epic Battle of Kosovo against the Ottoman Empire on June 28, 1389.

The political organization I co-founded, 28.Jun, is named after this day. We are currently entangled in an ongoing dispute with Chelsea Handler about her insults towards the Serbian people. Those tribes would democratically vote to separate and the US would spiral in violent fragmentation. Б: You highlighted the plight of Kosovo Serbs and donated profits from your tracks to restoring monasteries damaged by Albanian extremists. How do you respond to those who say Kosovo is already lost to us?

Kosovo will never be lost as long as there are Serbs living on this planet who have knowledge of themselves. We were under Ottoman occupation for 500 years and we defeated them. Kosovo has been occupied since 1999. What’s 12 years compared to 500?

We are responsible for the situation we are in right now. The Albanians wanted Kosovo more and they proved to be more capable and this is self-evident as they now control nearly the entire province. If Serbs truly cared about Kosovo like Palestinians care about the Gaza Strip, no amount of NATO bombs could deter us from our rightful continued resistance. However, we as a people are war fatigued and one could argue rightfully so, therefore this lapse has occurred and we’re experiencing difficult times during which our territory is temporarily occupied.

That being said, I believe if a fair solution isn’t reached through diplomatic means, once the right circumstances present themselves our people will continue our struggle against subjugation by occupiers. FULL INTERVIEW

mym Brian: 7. You’ve never been one to hide your political views - 3 years ago Kosovo's government “unilaterally” declared independence from Serbia ,why is this an important issue for you and do you think the general public should pay more attention to what happens like this throughout the globe?

Filip Filipi: The Kosovo issue is important to me because it's a matter of naked injustice. During the '90s the West supported Croatia as they expelled the entire Serbian population from the Krajina region, where they were the majority. A few years later they enabled the Albanian population in Kosovo to declare independence and one of their justifications was that they were the majority. This is a flagrant double standard to serve their own self interests. America has since built its biggest military base in Europe in Kosovo.

The humanitarian excuse is complete bullshit. Serbs did participate in extrajudicial killings in retaliation to attacks by Albanian narco-insurgents and I don't condone this. In fact, I'd personally shoot any Serb who killed or raped innocent civilians. However, armed separatists who were trying to rip our heartland away from us to secure their heroin transit routes are a legitimate target. If we used this same logic of rewarding land to those who suffered than surely there wouldn't be enough planets in our solar system to compensate the Serbian nation for the loses it has endured throughout its entire blood soaked existence.

The general public couldn't find the Pacific Ocean on the map, much less Kosovo. However, the people in power who are dictating foreign policy are much better informed. Besides knowing where Kosovo is, they also know about the $4 billion Trepca mine complex there. They know about the geopolitical importance of installing a military base on Russia's doorstep. They know about the ideological importance of destroying the remnants of Yugoslavia, which was a successful socialist state. FULL INTERVIEW

i can't believe it's been 4 years since i wrote 'Mandolins Cry' for my grandma...to date it's still my personal favorite so i'd like to share how it came to be...the beat i used was actually laying around on my computer for a while and i just didn't know what to do with it until i set out to dedicate a song to my grandma...in Serbian tradition you're not supposed to watch tv or listen music for 40 days after somebody dies so i had quite a while to think about how i wanted to do this song...i wrote down some lines and took it to the studio but a lot of it i just did on the spot...the reason the chorus sounds off is because i originally did it as a guide for someone else to sing...i had just finished Persijska Princeza with Boban Rajovic which turned out great and the fact he and my grandma both speak with a Montenegrin accent persuaded me to have him sing the hook...however when the track was being mixed, the engineer as well as another Serbian musician who happened to be in the studio both said my version of the hook was "more unique"...it made sense to me because the song was from me to my grandma so we ran with that version (you can check the version with Rajovic HERE)... i'm aware i got a funny accent and i'm the world's worst singer but the track is directed to my grandma so i don't really care what people think...the part at the end about Kosovo and albanians I did because my grandma is from Kosovo and the year before they had the pogroms to remove all Serbs from there and they were also about to announce their independence...looking back i think it cheapens my song and I'll probably remove it or shorten it for the album version

Here’s an exclusive update for you Jovana, and I’m only telling you this because you’re an Aquarius: The latest I’m hearing from her management – Music Star Production is the song is a definite go but she wants the lyrics I wrote for her edited so they took it to Marina Tucakovic, the renowned songwriter. The song is co-produced by Deezle, who is Lil Wayne’s engineer and we’re waiting for Ceca’s part to be finished before we try to get him in the studio because he’s very busy now that he just got out of jail. My part is finished and trust me I’m dying to release it but I promise the wait will be worth it because it’s truly shaping up to be a great song. Master's Thesis Project

when compiling the tracks for Master's Thesis i took several factors into consideration. i looked at my personal favorites (Blood In My Eyes, Mandolins Cry, Clouds Over Montana), i looked at the most commercially successful (Boom) and i took into account fan favorites (If I Could Go Back, My Life). I also wanted the tracklist to reflect my cultural background (Persijska Princeza, Upoznaj Srbiju) and not be dependent on featured artists so i selected songs written entirely by me (Hurricane Ana, All I Need). lastly, i included little known tracks which may have gone under the radar (I Won't Stop, Slav, 1991) and of course some brand new tracks which reflect how far my art has progressed to this point (500). the song selection process was extremely strenuous as i had to pick 14 songs from over 250. every track will be remastered for the CD!

every song on this tape is special to me because i took part in every aspect of their creation from production to hand picking the collaborators. my inspiration for including serbian tracks on this project comes from wycelf jean's early albums where he had a several songs in french at the very end of the disc. the project is not uniform in any way because it chronicles my recordings from the 5 last years encompassing various influences, trends and topics. if you think the cover has nothing to do with the project, you're right, it doesn't! this is my best work in its raw form and the idea i have had for this cover i have been saving for years. after contemplating several titles for this project i decided on Master's Thesis. the reason i selected this name is because had i chosen formal education over music when i finished high school i could have completed a masters degree in the time it took me to create this CD.

i compare Master's Thesis to a sculpture which i have chiseled away at for 5 years which is finally ready to be presented to the world in its final form. i consider this project the magnum opus of my journey through music and i look forward to sharing it with everyone in the coming months.

November Update: Finished Recording the "Ceca Duet"

a quick monthly update on the state of affairs...some media outlets have reported on a possible duet with probably the biggest singer in the ex-yu region Svetlana Raznatovic "Ceca"...this is in fact TRUE...i finished recording '500' yesterday - it took me 3 sessions, which is unheard of for me and it came out EPIC...i sent the lyrics for the hook to Vedrana to see how they would sound and she did an amazing job (look out for a future collabo with her)...i then sent the ghost track to Ceca's management and they LOVED IT (like everyone else who heard it) so we're all optimistic something will get done before she leaves for her upcoming Australia tour...as i've stated previously this is my final rap song and i went all out!!!...i worked on the lyrics for 2 months and when i got hit with writers block i went to my old neighborhood at like 4 am to get inspiration !!! I'm very happy with how my verses came out and can't wait for the track to get finished...it will be the lead single from my new project 'Life, Money and Cashmere' (vote here for which song you'd like to see added to cd) which im hoping to drop around New Years

the cover for Life, Money and Cashmere is something we started a few years back (January 21, 2008, 3:56:42 AM to be exact)...the inspiration comes from a near death experience a family friend had when he was a little boy...he explained sitting on a bottomless, never ending wall in the middle of space overlooking the earth...he explained it as being very peaceful and serene...the description really hit me and i thought it would make a perfect cover, i immediately sent marko my interpretation of it and he loved the idea as well....we've been saving this idea for just the right project and since Life, Money and Cashmere is my last mixtape we think it's the perfect fit...the final version will be unveiled sometime in the upcoming week

I wanted to keep everyone in the loop as to what i've been up to since the mixtapes dropped...BASKETBALL!! as some of you may know before i got into music ball was my thing and i decided to give college basketball one last chance before i turned benjamin buttons age...all of last month i was at try outs and amazingly i made the team!!! my conditioning was atrocious but i could still play a lil'... i definitely wasn't the best player (but i did have the best kicks) nonetheless it was a great experience and i want to thank my teammates and coaching staff who were all great! the reason i'm speaking in past tense is my plate is currently too full music-wise and there was no way in the world i could juggle both...there's still a chance i might play second semester, just the thought of those 7am practices has me excited :)

"Selfmade" Records Stole My Beat

The CEO of Selfmade Records Elvir Omerbegovic a.k.a. 'Slick One' and his producer Boris Petrovic a.k.a. 'Rizbo' stole the beat from my song 'Upoznaj Srbiju' and used it to make their hit single 'Weg nach oben'. After I confronted them about the thievery in 2007 I received a contract from Elvir guaranteeing me all publishing for the song through the German music rights management agency (GEMA) and full production credit. Since the initial agreement Elvir has changed all his phone numbers and emails in order to avoid any sort of communication which my team and I tried to initiate with regards to the payment we were promised. We are now in 2010 and I am still owed 3 years of royalty checks for my work. Should Elvir continue to hide even after this revelation to the public about his unlawful practices I will be forced to take legal action.

I am considerate of the sensitivities revolving around the reality that I'm Serbian and the two culprits are Bosnian Muslim. To demonstrate my respect for their culture and religion I will travel to Germany and implement Sharia law by cutting off their hands should they fail to compensate me for the theft of my work.

10 Changing the name Albanians to 'Pigeons'
After a series of unprovoked and vicious attacks from amateur Albanian rappers I decided that instead of responding in kind, I would christen their entire nation "pigeons". I went on to amass thousands of signatures supporting a petition which was to be submitted to the UN and officially change the name "Albanians" to "pigeons". The term continues to enjoy widespread use among the Serbian diaspora where it is synonymous with hostile Albanians. I was inspired by the double-headed burnt pigeon on the Albanian flag. Even though I don't condone this sort of activity anymore and have gone on to befriend numerous Albanian females (pigeon heads) I still oppose any illegal and immoral annexation of Serbian territory.
9 Charity Work
Philanthropy went hand in hand with our projects from the very beginning. Some of our early work included the successful “Save Viktor” campaign that was aimed at raising funds for the transfer of five-and-a-half-year-old stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer patient Viktor Tomasevic to Germany from Bosnia and Herzegovina for treatment. We used all our resources to bring attention to this cause and encouraged people to make donations and rewarded them with free mixtapes. Additionally, we donated proceeds of sales of Kosovo, Vijetnam, for the restoration efforts of Serbian monasteries desecrated by Albanian extremists in Kosovo. Ironically enough, "Serbian hero" or "sore loser" (as he's better known in the West) Milorad Cavic backed out of a promotional agreement for the Kosovo project and subsequently received a phone call from us notifying him he'd be swimming "in the east river" instead of the Beijing Olympics. He seemed shaken up by the whole ordeal so we take credit for him being forever known as simply 'the guy who lost to Michael Phelps and whined about it'.
8 Camouflaged
The video for this song was shot with a $40 Sony Handycam Camcorder equipped with a $5 Fisheye lens (that we had to duct-tape on) and a BlackBerry camera with chaotic time constraints during my '08 trip to NYC. It currently has 125,000+ views on YouTube and was featured on every major hip hop site from OnSMASH to SOHH to WSHH and stands as a testament to our minimalist approach (combined with our creative genius) resulting in maximum results. The locations were Elmhurst, Queens, Times Square, the Five Points and the futuristically designed L'Ecole Victor Brodeur in Victoria, BC. My flashy wardrobe from the shoot was distributed to friends who undoubtedly stored the garments in a safe in hopes of one day auctioning them off for a fortune.

7 Making Mixtape Covers an Art
In the winter of '05 I received a Myspace message from a lanky, olive-skinned aspiring artist by the name of 'Muny Mark' offering his
services. Having just sold 10,000+ units of the Sizzerb Vol. 1 mixtape, this period marked the height of label interest and I was not trying to talk to anyone who wasn't an A&R. Our initial correspondence was slow...that was until I saw his work. In a window of 48 hours the newly-named 4AM (because he literally stayed up until 4AM to finish) knocked out the Rane cover (parts of which were hand drawn) and the Sizzerb mixtape vol. 2 cover. The prolific genius has gone on to create every single one of my masterpiece covers (one of which was copied by Lil Wayne), videos, logos, photos, clothing designs, necklace designs and tattoo designs, since. In addition, he served as associate-executive producer on several of my mixtapes, helping me with samples and (with Kiza) organizing collaborations. Now known by his government name, Marko Sejat, in my humble and unbiased opinion is the best graphic designer in the world. He's currently entering year 5 of a 150-year deal with Filipi Music Group, ensuring that not only he, but his (and Branka's) kids as well, will continue to make generations of Filipi's look fly.
6 Revolutionizing Serbian Rap
The groundbreaking (and nerve-wrecking) Rane series introduced (in chronological order): sped up vocal samples, autotune and chop and screw to the Serbian music scene. It helped launch the careers of (homos) Elitni Odredi, Cvija, Rolex, Dada, Coby and numerous other young artists on top of bringing VIP back into the mainstream (from obscurity). The Upoznaj Srbiju trilogy introduced Serbian rap to the world and bridged the gap between musicians in Serbia and in the Serbia diaspora. 'Beef' was also introduced as a promotional tool and helped build buzz surrounding my projects at the expense of other rappers feelings. Our production, which mixed pop, R&B, electro and even folk elements, helped bring the Serbian rap scene out of a mid-90s time warp. Hits like Persijska Princeza, Kazu Mi, Mandoline and Don Brate defined Serbian rap music from '05 to '10. All this success, of course, produced a great deal of haters, who among other things ludicrously questioned the fact I was Serbian(?!). A great (camel) man once said "Men lie, women lie, but numbers don't" and I will leave the haters with another non-Serbian quote; "Veni, vidi, vici"

5 Fox News interview
The controversy surrounding the Miladin Kovacevic case and the demands for his extradition by the US government (and my disapproval of it) brought me head to head with one of the most infamous tools of American propaganda: Fox News. An up and coming reporter by the name of Jackie Kane spotted a Facebook group I had created which denounced double standards by opposing the extradition of Miladin to America (a country which has never extradited any of its citizens who have committed crimes in foreign countries). An interview was arranged and I valiantly defended the perspective shared by myself and my countrymen (much to the chagrin of senator Chuck Schumer). Miladin is currently awaiting trial in Serbia (Random fact: my uncle actually testified at the case because he works for the Serbian consulate in NYC) and the Serbian government has paid compensation to the victim and his family. In a related matter I did manage to get Jackie's number and she's eagerly awaiting my next visit to Binghamton in upstate New York.

4 Name Change
After 10 mixtapes under the 'Sin' moniker I decided it was time to grow up and start using my real name. The name change also matched the evolution which was taking place with my music so it was only right to make the switch before I started Design and Origin of Stars and Vavilon. A major factor in the decision was the fact that I'm the only 'Filip Filipi' in the world and Sin was such a common term. This was compacted by the notion that to some people 'Sin' had a religious connotation, when in reality it was short for 'Sincere' (a character played by Nas in the 1998 Hype Williams movie Belly). Also to dispel some myths about the origin of my name I'd like to inform everyone that Filipi is the slavicized version of the Greek 'Philippi' which was a city frequently mentioned in the Bible (Philippians). But no, I'm not Greek nor do I know why the fuck so many Albanians have that last name so please don't start any new rumors. I got the name because 300 years ago some asshole ancestor of mine came from either Bologna or Sicily to Dalmatia and the name stayed on the paternal side. It has come to my attention there has been quite a bit of debate on the internet about this and I would like to state once and for all that I'm Serbian (not Italian, Sicilian, Albanian, Polish, Jewish, etc)!
3 Persijska Princeza
The second Bijelo Dugme sample I turned into a hit, this time using 'U vrijeme otkazanih letova' became my most famous song in Serbia and after dominating the radio for 2 years currently sits at over a million views on YouTube (which is insane considering there are only 8 mil. Serbs in Serbia). The track was my brainchild from the start and I went on to co-produce the beat, co-write everyone's parts and co-direct the video for it. Elitni Odredi, despite being known for this song, had nothing to do with it and basically received a open verse with detailed instructions on how not to fuck it up. The video was shot before Boban Rajovic's show in Vancouver in February of '09 after a long delayed flight from Paris. We had about 45 minutes to finish the whole thing and after fashioning him with Ognjen's Palestinian scarf we got right down to business. He was a real soldier about it and went on to deliver a charismatic performance (without make up, which he initially demanded) despite not remembering any of the words. The results reflected the hasty filming schedule (we had to use a black marker to fill the green on my shirt so it wouldn't bleed through the green screen) but it's still probably the "greatest Serbian rap video ever". Random Fact: Me and Boban discussed a swap of my BlackBerry for his $500 moccasin inspired Gucci boots but it turned out they were too small (however, he did try to take off with Ognjen's scarf).
2 Boom
A song I came close to cutting (to this day I don't like it) before Aaron Bold's philistine musical taste correctly predicted it would become a hit, is undeniably my most renowned work to date. Propelled by the Shane's Sparks choreographed routine on the season finale of the the number one rating show So You Think You Can Dance, the song was heard by over 13 million people in the USA and Canada as well as millions more internationally. It currently has 2.5+ million views on Youtube (all the videos combined are closer to 5 million), was used on the Serbian version of Survivor (they still haven't paid me) and has been become a regular tune in dance schools from Brazil to Thailand. I have released several remixes but none has come close to the success of the original. The song was a blessing and a curse at the same time because despite being a very popular song it attached my name to a style of music which I had no real interest in pursuing. It also wasn't a good indicator of my overall body of work and created problems with labels who expected me to make more of the same.

1 Making it Cool to be Serbian
From groundbreaking music, to fashion, to political initiatives to overall s-w-a-g, as depicted in #'s 1-9, my team and I have given the Serbian youth positive role models to look up to and admire. From 1389 Records to the Sizzerb mixtape series to the Rane series to commercial hits on TV and radio I've always strived to be authentic and incorporate my culture into my art. I've assembled a team of the most creative minds Serbia has to offer (see Sejat, Marko & Gasic, Djordje), I've worked with top American musical talents (Collie Buddz, SoShy, Ace Hood, etc) and top Serbian musical talents (Boban Rajovic, Natasa Kojic, etc). I've collaborated with top Serbian athletes (Ana Ivanovic, Neven Subotic), I graced the cover of every magazine in the dijaspora (Kisobran, Objektiv, etc) and I didn't back down from Albanian terrorists (despite stabbings, death threats) nor media miscreants (Fox News, B92). I made commercial hits (Boom, Persijska Princeza) and I've made songs that touch people (Mandolins, Blood in My Eyes), I've failed and succeeded many times but most importantly I DID IT MY WAY. (Not bad for someone who has zero natural musical ability)

i have finally finished recording for Design & Origin Of Stars and Vavilon !!!...we're starting mixing this week and the track lists for both cds should be up as soon as we figure out the song order...however fuck all that, i know everyone wants to know what tracks i got coming out next, so here it is..................the next single for 'stars' is called Johannesburg and features Gucci Mane, Hyper Crush & Christian Rich, i'm hoping to drop this around July 7th in conjunction with the world cup semifinals - THIS TRACK IS INSANE!!!...the first video will be shot for Hurricane Ana -- the fans have spoken and that song was the runway winner with 52% of the vote...the video will be shot in LA later this month! the album version and serbian version will be released in the next few days and i got a SUPERSTAR guest (hint: she's the most famous 'ana' in the world) to do a lil something on the song...the next single for Vavilon will be either 'No Limit' feat. Natasa Kojic Tasa or 'Samo Zelim Da Znam 2010' feat. Dee Monk, i'm hoping to drop that in next week or so as well!
